This post only applies to the Legacy database! No, you do NOT need an Internet connection or Internet access to run the desktop application (Legacy database).
However, an internet connection is needed at some point to download periodic updates. Visit the forum from time to time to see what the latest version is. (When the Check for updates reminder pops up in AWdb would be a good time!) If there is a new update:
For computers running WINDOWS XP (not Vista), Windows 8, or newer:Exit the database and open Windows Explorer (aka My Computer).
Right-click and CUT the Approved Workman folder, then PASTE it to a USB flash drive.
Properly shut down the USB drive and then remove it.
Take the USB drive to a computer that DOES have an internet connection.
Launch the ApprovedWorkman.exe file directly from the USB drive and log in.
Click Help > Check for updates to download and apply the updates!
Once all the updates are applied (there may be more than one)...
Exit the database and safely remove the USB drive.
Take the USB drive back to the original computer.
CUT/PASTE the Approved Workman folder back to the C: drive.
For computers running WINDOWS VISTA or WINDOWS 7: use a backup and restore procedure instead of the CUT/PASTE technique.
For more specific information on moving the database to a USB drive, including a video, see this post:
