Note: This post is applicable in the Cloud database's Windows App as well as in the Legacy database.
This is our first year using AWdb. We noticed that the Sparks wings for each of the Sparks handbooks only trigger at the completion of all Red Jewel 1 sections. According to the Leader guides for the Sparks handbooks, the wings can be given with the completion of Red Jewel 1.2, 1.3 & 1.4 since the Red Jewel 1.1 Bring a friend section can be done at any time in the year. It is rare that kids bring a friend by the time they complete the rest of the Red Jewel sections, so it is important to have the wings triggering if the other 3 sections are complete, but not RJ1.1.

You can go in to the curriculum tab under the admin tab go into each book and mark that particular section of not required... that is what I did and this is my 4th or 5th year using the database.

Thanks so much for the tip; I'll do that. Does marking it as "not required" affect anything negatively?

Ok, I just figured out the negative outcome to making the Bring a Friend section not required. It moves the section to the extra credit tab and prints out on the Current Handbook Report in the extra credit area as well. Not good!!
Perhaps there needs to be a fix to AWdb instead of this type of work around. Wings should trigger either at the completion of Red jewel 1 (4 sections) or at the completion of sections 2,3 & 4 of Red Jewel 1.

Try this:
1. Go to Inventory tab and create a new inventory item: Item #-BAF, Description-Bring-a-friend complete. On the Club Usage tab, select "Use this item as a choice in any AWARD related drop-down list".
2. Then go to Admin tab>Generic Lookups>Section Group Names. Add a new Group Name: Bring-a-friend
(Note: In the Windows app, go to Admin > System Settings > Generic Lookups.)
3. Then go to the Curriculum tab, Open Sparks, then double click HangGlider, and open the Section Groups and Awards.
Create a new Section Group: Awards Set - Jewels, Section Group Name-Bring-a-friend, Award completed-Bring-a-friend complete.
4. Then click on Units and Sections, find Red Jewel 1:1 and change the Group Name to Bring-a-friend.
Then repeat steps 3 & 4 for the WingRunner and SkyStormer books.

I tried your suggestion Eric. The wings triggered after I checked off Red jewel 1.2,1.3,& 1.4 sections (skipping red jewel 1.1), however, red jewel 1 also triggered along with the wings. Just the wings alone need to trigger. Red jewel 1 waits to be awarded at whatever point the "bring a friend" section is completed later in the year.
Any further modifications that might improve the result?
I really appreciate your help.

I missed that part of your request. I can't think of any way to do that.
We usually just just out the jewel even if the BAF section is not done.

Eric, I've thinking about how to make your fix work for us as it seems to be the best option for now, until I can talk Rick into an enhancement.
What if: when the wings and RJ1 trigger (without completion of RJ1.1 bring a friend), we selected "not received" for the jewel.
- Red Jewel 1 would then show up on the awards sheet every week (I assume)
When Bring a Friend section is finally complete, then we could mark red jewel 1 as received and give it out.
Since Bring a Friend triggers the "bring a friend is complete" award, would that be what would trigger us to give out red jewel 1?
Would the "bring a friend" complete show up on the awards report?

Yes, that would be the best work around solution.

Thanks again for all your help, Eric. We'll try that. I just sent an enhancement request as well.
